Quotes of the night:

Jan 12, 2007

The night begins with an odd coincidence. The lighting is right, the mood is tense, and Frankie is singing “Luck be a Lady Tonight” on the radio. The core group has gathered again tonight. Chris, JC back from a week off, Eric, and Todd are all here. Eric once again is back to defend his title.

Hand 1 is a bad start for JC when he flops the nuts and still loses a good bit of chips to Eric who got lucky on the river when it gave him his 3-of-a-kind.

Hand 2 went to JC with a big pot when he goes all in with 2 pair Aces high. JC has taken an immediate aggressive stance tonight and it’s seemed to throw the other players just a little. We’re all used to him playing more conservatively with his chips.

Hand 3 went to Chris as everyone folds.

Hand 4 went to JC when he matched Todd who went all in. JC had a flush King high. Todd couldn’t buy his way out of his bluff. Todd buys back into the game.

Hand 5 was a bitter lose for Todd as he goes all in yet again and Chris called and won. Todd is out early in the game.

Hand 6 went to Chris and his pair of Aces.

Hand 7 went to Eric and his two pair. Regardless of this win Eric is still the small stack tonight.

Hand 8 went to Eric yet again with another pair.

Hand 9 goes to JC who pushed Chris out of the pot by going all in.

Hand 10 was tense as Eric pushed all in with an Ace high, JC called with pocket Jacks. Eric got lucky on the river with another Ace. JC is wondering how many nights can he flop the nuts and still lose to Chris and Eric on the river. The group was then wondering…what does the term “the nuts” actually mean in poker. JC gave us our quote of the night, “Guys, never google ‘the nuts’”.

Hand 11 JC goes all in with a pair of Jacks and was beat by Eric who had 2 pair Jacks and 10’s.

Hand 12 JC buys-in and goes all in with 2 pair Jacks and 8’s. Eric calls and flips his cards. He also has a pair of jacks and a 9 high. He still needs a 9 to beat JC. Of course when the river was flopped it gave Eric his 9. JC is out of the game. For the first time in PPT records JC will not be the runner up in a game he is playing in.

Hand 13 goes heads up with Chris “The River” Sattes and Eric. Eric wins.

Hand 14-23 was some of the most boring playing we’ve seen in PPT history. Nothing but antes and small raises. Mostly folds.

Hand 24 was the hand where it all went down. There was $500 in the pot before the flop. Eric raised $1,000 and Chris called and raised another $500 before the flop. Eric goes all in still on a blind raise. Chris calls again. The players flip their cards. At the river Eric has a pair of Kings with a Jack. Chris has a pair of King’s also, but has a Queen kicker!

The game once again goes to Chris “The River” Sattes. The other players sick of hearing his self proclaimed nick-name have now called him Tugboat Toffer. This obviously doesn’t bother Chris any since he once again can return to the PPT next Friday and defend his title.

Join us then and see our players go head to head in the best poker in the Mountain State.

Hands: 30

Head to Head: Todd v Eric

Quotes of the night:

Topher was out early and playing Guitar Hero. GW shook his head to say, "I don't get people playing video games that make you work.  I play games to veg out and kill people".
Commenting on stories of his recent accidents, Todd quips, "I thought that's why you drove!"

Eric, "...better butkus"

Dec, 22, 2006

Four regulars sat at the table tonight. Todd, defending his title, Eric, Chris, and JC were all itching to win tonight’s pot. The button started with JC so Todd began the action first. JC and Chris quickly fold before the flop and so it came down to Eric and Todd. Both go heads up to the river where Todd’s Jacks beat Eric’s 6’s. You know what the Polish say Eric, “Tough shitskies!”

Hand 2 was won by Chris with a 3-of-a-kind.

Hand 3 went to Todd with his pair of 8’s.

Hand 4 JC taunted Todd into calling him with his Ace high straight. Todd called him with only a pair of Kings.

Hand 5 went to Eric when he raised the pot.

Hand 6 was all Todd’s with a dream hand of pocket Aces.

Hand 7 proved to be a great hand for Eric when the flop came as a flush draw. He went all in and everyone else let him have it.

Hand 8 went to Chris “The River” Sattes with the biggest pot tonight and his lucky 3-of-a-kind. Eric went all in on that one and had to use his only buy-in of the night.

Hand 9 was another great one for “The River” when Todd goes all in against him and Chris again gets lucky on the river. Chris is bleeding everyone here tonight with a lot of bad beats. Todd buys in.

Hand 10 was all Chris again when Eric went head to head with him. Chris’s Ace came right at the River and put Eric out of the game. The other player can’t really feel to bad for Eric seeing in how he’s been at the top of his game for weeks now. Chris “The River” Sattes is now the chip leader. JC is the short stack and Todd is not to far off. JC still has a slight advantage over Todd since he still has his buy-in.

Hand 11 went to Todd before the flop.

Hand 12 went to JC with his second win tonight.

Hand 13 we saw a great move when Todd went all in and won with his flush.

Hand 14 was all Chris when JC went all in and lost it all. He uses his buy-in to get back into the action.

Hand 15 goes to Chris with 2 pair.

Hand 16 Todd goes all in with nothing in a desperate attempt to double up. Chris wasn’t in the mood to be pushed out of a pot so he calls. Todd is out of the game.

Hand 17 went heads up with JC and Chris “The River” Sattes. JC finally took the pot from him.

Hand 18 Chris once again gets lucky on the river and takes the pot.

Hand 19 went to JC when he went all in and Chris let him have it.

Hand 20 JC wins again as Chris folds.

Hand 21 Chris folds for the third time. Things are heating up in the room as JC takes a new aggressive stance against Chris.

Hand 22 JC takes it as Chris folds on the turn. This kind of aggressive playing is either going to JC the amazing come-back he needs, or it’s going to take him out of the game in one hand.

Hand 23 Chris folds yet again to JC’s 3-of-a-kind.

Hand 24 JC goes all in before the flop. Chris calls. JC has a pair of pocket Jacks. Chris has a 9 and a 4 of spades. The flop gives Chris a 9. JC needs to dodge a 4 or a 9 to win this hand. The turn shows a 3 of clubs, and the river once again gives Chris a 4. Chris “The River” Sattes living up to his self-given name wins. JC “flopped the nuts” and was taken out by a bad beat. Chris will be our returning champion defending his title next week. Join us next week for the best action around in the PPT.

Dec 15, 2006

A mixed feeling of tension and excitement was in the air tonight as JC, Todd, Eric, and Dan took seats at the table. JC was still remembering the bitter hand he lost to Eric on last week. Todd was itching for his chance to win another big pot. Eric was defending his title and playing his father, Dan. Dan, the veteran player of the four was determined to put is name in the PPT winner’s book. After some friendly banter the evening began.

First hand was fatal for Eric, as he went all in on his first hand against Todd. After the river Todd ended up with 2 pair, Queens and 4’s. The game had only begun 5 minutes ago and Eric was already using his only buy-in. I was interested to see how this would play out with Eric’s confidence in the game.

On the second hand JC and Dan went head to head with a $400 pot. The river came down and gave JC a pair of deuces and a King. Dan threw down the Devil’s own hand 3-of-a-kind 6’s. I can’t be sure, but I think I saw Todd scoot his stool a little farther away from Dan’s chair.

The night continued with some of the best hands in PPT history. All players were making big bets and bringing in big pots. Here is how the night played out.

Hand three ended with everyone folding at the kicker when JC raised $400 with his flush.

Hand four Eric went all in for the second time in the game tonight with Todd matching him. They players flipped their cards over and Eric wins with his 3-of-a-kind 9’s.

Hand five Eric is all in again matched by Todd and Eric throws down a flush that took out Todd’s 2 pair. Obviously my concerns about Eric’s confidence were wrong…or was this aggressive stance just covering something else. I guess we’ll never know.

Hand six JC went all in with a straight King high, against Dan who only had a pair of Kings.

Hand seven was interesting when 3 clubs came in on the flop. Father and son, Dan and Eric, went head to head. Eric in the end folded his cards and Dan took the pot.

Hand eight was an easy win for Dan when everyone folded on the flop.

Hand nine added a little heat to the game after JC and Dan dropped out leaving Eric and Todd going head to head. This time Todd went all in and Eric back down. Todd wins the pot.

Hand ten was a small win for Eric when everyone folded on the flop leaving Eric with only the blinds and his pocket 10’s.

Hand eleven was a tense round when it was down to Eric and Todd once again. There were 2 Aces on the table and large pot in the center. Everyone had one question in mind. Who has that third Ace? Todd flips his cards over…HE HAS THE ACE with a 5. Eric wasn’t quite looking like the game was over though as he turns over ANOTHER ACE WITH A TEN! Pot goes to Eric. What a hand, but believe it or not the night was just getting interesting.

Hand twelve went to Todd and his 2 pair.

Hand thirteen ended as JC folds to Eric.

Hand fourteen got hot when Dan went all in on the flop. Obviously no one wanted play that against him because everyone backed down to his raise. Dan wins that hand.

Hand fifteen will go down in PPT history as one of, if not, THE BEST hand we’ve seen. There was $1,700 in the pot. The room was quiet. Dan is all in. JC is all in. Eric has just enough chips to call both of them. The cards are flipped and here is how they read. Dan had a full house. Eric had a full house. JC takes the pot and everyone’s breath with a rare 4-of-a-kind!! Amazing! Two full houses and a 4-of-a-kind! Who knows the next time we’ll see a hand like that again.

Hand sixteen starts with a new determination in all the players. Never have we seen the table so even with chips per player this late in the game. JC right now has a small lead in chips. Surprisingly, he folds before the flop as does Eric. Todd and Dan go head to head with Dan all in. Todd wins this hand with a Baby Straight, against Dan who was bluffing with a Jack.

It’s at this point in my commentary that I would like to remind everyone of on of the house rules. The PPT does recognize special or “freak” hands, but it is up to the player with the hand to call attention to it. Before joining one of our games please read our website www.pocapoker.com thoroughly.

Eventually Dan’s blood pressure went down after a rude awakening to the house rules, the game resumes, but not before he buy’s back in and let’s out our quote of the night, “Ah poopie!” Hand seventeen was taken by JC and his 2 pair.

Hand eighteen was a turning point in the game for Todd when he took in a $1,300 pot with another two pair.

Hand nineteen was Eric’s when everyone folded at the flop.

Hand twenty again helped Todd when his two pair beat JC’s Baby Straight. He took in another $1,700 pot. For the first time in the game tonight there is a definite chip leader.

Hand twenty-one was a beautiful win for Eric when JC went all in with a pair of pocket Aces. Unfortunately for JC, Eric had a flush with hearts. For the first time in 2 months JC has to buy back into a game.

Hand twenty-two went to JC when Dan went all in against him. This is the first time that a game has gone so long with no one leaving the table. Todd, Eric, and JC are all whose left.

Hand twenty-three went to Todd after JC folds after the Kicker. Hand twenty-four was Eric’s win after JC and Todd fold.

Hand twenty-five went straight to the River with Todd and Eric head to head. The cards on the table were 2C 3S 4S 5D JH. Eric is all in. Todd calls him. Eric only has a pair of fives. Todd has the 6S which gives him the straight. Eric joins his dad as a spectator only. He lost his title of 2 weeks.

Hand twenty-six was the start of a painful end to JC who only had $156 in chips. Todd had $5,000+. JC went all in and double against Todd with a Baby Straight. Hand twenty-seven was JC’s fatal moment when he went all in with 2 pair. Todd threw down 3-of-a-kind. Congrats to Todd who has taken the pot for the third time* in PPT history!

It was an exciting night here at the PPT. Some of the best hands in PPT history were played here tonight. Join us next week as Todd defends his title.

Will Eric return to take back the spot light? Will JC stop coming second every night and finally take the pot for himself?

Last, but not least, will Dan return to play at the PPT after his spat with the House Rules? All good questions that will be answered next week. Join us again then for some of the hottest poker in WV. Thank-you for being with us tonight.

Quote of the night “Ah poopie!”

Dec 8, 2006

The night started out with the biggest joke of a game I've ever seen, with players going all in without looking at their cards.  The person to blame for this act of craziness is of course, Brandon.  This game lasted all of 15 minutes...about the time Brandon decided to leave the table for a hot date at TGI Friday's.  Then the night began.....

After Brandon left Eric, Topher, Todd, and JC were the only 4 at the table.  Topher wins the first hand with 2 pair Queens and 10's.  Todd and JC folded at the flop, and Eric couldn't beat him at the River with his 9 of spades and 6 of clubs.

The second hand proved to be devastating on Topher who lasted with only $20 left on the table, and to Todd who went all in acting like he had Eric's cards.  Eric one this hand with a Full House, and JC folds conservatively before the kicker.  The stage has been set and the players know they are in for a long game.  Here is how the hands went down tonight.

Hand three goes to Topher with a straight Ace-5, great hand and well played.

Hand four went to JC, who's 2 pair was just the edge he needed over Eric's pair.

Hand five, JC wins again with a pair of 5's over Topher (who had only a 7 high card) and Eric who had a 4 and a 9 of spades.  I guess that flush never came through for him.

At this point, as according to house rules, Topher and Todd bought back into the game.

Hand six it was down to Eric and JC.  JC hesitates to Eric's $100 raise.  Eric challenged JC by saying, "You are a snake to my mongoose."  JC folds to that statement not letting his pride bring him down.

Hand seven was a game of checking straight down to the turn when Topher made a $20 raise and everyone put their cards to rest.

Hand eight JC and Topher go down to the river alone.  JC has a full house with 8's and 5's.  Almost claiming victory he notices that Topher also has a full house with Kings and 5's.  It was not the best of moments for JC.

After that Hand nine went to Todd with a pair of 8's

Hand ten Topher wins with 3 of a kind Queens to JC’s pair of 5’s.

Hand eleven JC plays a high stakes head to head with Eric, and Eric then folds on the river.

Hand twelve Eric and Topher take their show down to the river.  Eric wins with 2 pair – Kings over 7’s.  Topher had nothing.  I wish we all had money to burn like that Topher.  Better luck next time.

Hand thirteen Todd goes all in for the second time tonight and JC matches him.  Lady Luck just wasn’t with Todd tonight.  JC took him to the back with 2 pair over his hand with nothing.

Hand fourteen ended with a strong turn of events.  Eric took Topher out when Topher went all in.  Eric racked in a $2,785 pot with his straight.

Hand fifteen was just down to JC and Eric.  We’ve seen other nights like this.  These two can go head to head forever never backing down from each other.  Eric has taken JC twice, and JC has only won a match over Eric once.  This hand went to JC.

Hands sixteen-nineteen ended with two small wins each between JC and Eric.  The dealer took the minimum bet up to $50.

Hand twenty JC takes a $1,600 pot with his 2 pair.

Hand twenty-one JC takes the pot as Eric folds.

Hand twenty-two Eric takes JC to the river with a $3,700 pot, but JC wins it with his bluff.  All he had was a King of Clubs.

Hands twenty-three – twenty-four ends one win each with minimum bets.

Hand twenty-five proved interesting as JC won his hand when Eric folded at the turn.  Topher at this point says that he now knows how JC works and can now start playing that against him.  “It’s all in his eyes”, said Topher.  He says this after 2 months of poker playing with JC and 25 hands into the game.  We do hope you can read something at this point Topher.

Hand twenty-six JC wins….and Topher can’t explain that…..hmmm…..are we surprised?  You’d better watch his eyes a little closer from now on.

Hand twenty-seven was the turning point in the game for JC when he matches Eric and loses $480 to Eric’s Kings.

Hand twenty-eight Eric is back in the game with a $1,400 pot win.

Hand twenty-nine goes to Eric again.

Hand thirty JC tries to hold on as he takes Eric with a hand of pocket 8’s

Hand thirty-one both players have been going at it forever.  On  a whim they both go all in without looking at their pocket cards.  The dealer lays out the cards 8C 7S JS 7D QD.  JC flips his cards to discover pocket 9’s.  Does he have it with 2 pair?  Eric peeks at his cards and begins to laugh maniacally as he lays down a 7H and 8C.  FULL HOUSE!

Pot goes to Eric with a beautiful hand.  This is the first time in PPT history that a player has taken the table 2 nights in a row.  Join us next week as Eric defends his title yet again.  We had some laughs, and people were humiliated, but remember it’s only a game….right….  Those of you who honestly believe that, can go back to Solitaire.  The rest of you can come back for some real action same place, same time next week.  Thank-you for joining us at the PPT, and congrats to Eric again on a game well played.

Quote of the night
“Fat guy in a little coat.”

And so ends the 5th Poca Poker Tournament!

Seven sat at the Felt Octagon Table, and only one walked away.  Kris Westfall came out the victor.

Early on the game turned frantic - chips were flying left and right - followed the the turning over of some of the WORST HANDS this reporter has ever seen.  It's a good thing the "Game Wall" as active. The ousted players seemed to be a bit better with their 'hands' in Tekken 5.

Quotes of the Night:
"Yeah!  Pickles!"
"I got a squirter!" (see above)
"I thought you were out of the game..."
